Odds or Evens reviewed in J-Mag

From the digits of Jaymz Clements comes this ace review of Odds or Evens in the Dec issue of Triple J Magazine. Got word from Mikky at Cobra Snake Necktie that he’s churning through the ‘Coke Bottle Green’ vinyl. If you’re a waxer best get into it soon. Cheers Liam

WEST AUSTRALIAN REVIEW “ODDS OR EVENS”

This just beemed across the Nullarbor. Glad to hear Jane Rocca at The West Australian is feeling it. This is what she has to say…..

From the frenzied strings that ignite the opening track Time Is Mine, you know what you’re in for on Melbourne pop/garage rockers The Bowers’ sophomore. Their message is simple – astute pop songs that hail the 60s in all its retro glory, but this four piece manage to keep the sound pointedly here and now. We love the swirling harmonies on Going To Love Me Now – the vintage styling would put a smile on anybody’s face.  Recorded at a vineyard in Victoria, Nagambie with producer Robbie Adams [Killing Heidi/Kamikaze Trio], this is about as uplifting as reflection gets.  From the nostalgic pondering felt in Said Never (And Lied) to the curly rhythms of Why Don’t You Rate Me; there’s songs about loss, love and leaving but nothing that can’t be repaired. Formed by former ex-Spencer P. Jones and Dynamo member Phil Gionfriddo and featuring Rocket Science’s Kit Warhurst, Spencer Dyson and 20-year-old vocalist Liam Linley, The Bowers are in full flight here.

Photos of The Bowers with You Am I and SPJ for The Tote 30th Birthday

We had a great night at The Tote on Thursday as The EG curated it’s night for the Tote 30th Birthday bash. We busted out action and I tried to jump around, but was hampered by an ankle sprain I acquired in on the beach in NSW last week. Still we had a real cool time. Spencer Jones and The Escape Committee played three piece, doing a mix of old stuff I used to play on when I was in that band plus KILLER new songs like “She Walks Between The Raindrops”. Thee Convicts emerged to be YOU AM I and smoked their second show of the night having played Rod Laver earlier in the evening. They did a bunch of covers, Davey singing  a Pink Floyd number, Andy doing Creedence and Rusty slamming The Mummies (I think???). Tim wore a dress, I wore my Mopar big block tshirt. Sweetas for sure.
