The Bowers play POP MUSIC LOUD in Melbourne

PHIL’S RANTREADER 13th JULY 2010 – THE BOWERS AT CORNISH ARMS AND TRIPLE M

I use a Nokia 7360. As a phone it works very well but being that I’m hooked on using predictive text I wonder who got to decide what words he/she thinks that I (as a reflection of popular society) would like to use most. For instance Jenny is the most common female name in the world, or at least this is what I’m led to believe yet when I go to type sweet nothings like Hi Jen can you please soak the lima beans, I will make chilli beans. See you in 10 hours. Love Phil xo I get ‘Ken’ followed by ‘Leo’, then ‘Len’ before I arrive at the highly desirable and commonly used aforementioned woman’s name. Just as according to my cell ‘might’ seems more usable than ‘night’, ‘he’ over ‘if’, ‘Raf’ in favour of ‘Rad’, ‘Bad’ in preference to ‘Ace’ and ‘camp’ before ‘cans’ why should I feel surprised that I had to teach the phone ‘footy’, ‘hotmail’ and ‘ripper’? I pray that those of you with more modern devices don’t have this same dilemma regardless of it’s manufacturing pedigree.

Celebrating the cellular age is something I encourage strongly tonight. Today it came to my attention that The Bowers “Caught Your Smile” will be played on Triple M 105.1FM at 8:45 pm followed by an interview with rants truly. Apparently it’s part of a cruel game where the song I penned is placed up against a song that won a similar contest last night. The victor is decided by how many SMS votes are placed in favour of each song/act so I ask if listening tonight or reading this in time text “THE BOWERS” TO 1999 1049 after 9pm tonight so the gut-wrenching torment can happen to me all over again tomorrow night.

Oh yeah we have a gig on Saturday night too!! The Bowers play a headline show at The Cornish Arms in Sydney Rd Brunswick. We are being joined by excellent St. Jude, now featuring my favourite guitarist, Dynamo’s Ryan McCarthy. Also the Empirical sounds of Chevrolet Rise will be cause for salute. It’s free and bands start at 9pm

Happy birthday Tony Robbins and thanks to John Watson who in response to last week’s rant pointed out that the function room under Rod Laver Arena is known as “The Farnham Room”, golden.
Phil.
